Randolph-Macon College is committed to equal opportunity for all academically-qualified students and does not discriminate on the basis of disability.  Accommodations are available to support students with disabilities in taking full advantage of the College’s educational, residential, social, and cultural opportunities.  The Office of Disability Services (DS) is responsible for the coordination of these accommodations. Disability Services staff determines eligibility for services and reasonable academic accommodations.

Mission

The Office of Disability Services (DS) fosters an inclusive campus climate through education, service, collaboration, and outreach to the Randolph-Macon community.  We provide support for students with documented disabilities by promoting equal access to all programs and services.

Goals

  • Enhance the ability of students with disabilities to understand how that disability affects the student in an educational setting, and with this understanding learn how to be a better self-advocate.
  • Communicate effectively with pre-admission students and their parents, giving open and honest evaluations of what accommodations might be available to each student.
  • Continually review relevant court and Office for Civil Rights rulings concerning persons with disabilities, as well as reviewing best practice models by maintaining membership in professional organizations and subscriptions to peer-reviewed journals and other relevant publications.
  • Provide leadership that ensures disability is recognized as a rich part of the diversity fabric on campus by providing information, education, and consultation to the entire Randolph-Macon community.
