Mastery of the spoken language is fostered within a curriculum that draws extensively upon the rich French literary tradition. A Feast for the Francophile The French curriculum features not only traditional studies in language and literature but also popular classes including business French, advanced conversation, and French and Francophone cinema. Department members regularly lead January (J-term) travel-study trips to France as well. Majors may also pursue certification for teaching French. Poesie Et Plus Conversation. Film. Poetry nights. The French studies program brings students together for lively and enjoyable programs and events beyond the classroom. Study Abroad Study abroad is required for all French majors, allowing students to immerse themselves in the daily life of another culture. "One of the greatest benefits of my study abroad included the opportunity to make new friends from around the world," says Aliya Headley, '12, who spent her junior year studying with international students in Nice.
