    Chroma Projects is pleased to announce, in partnership with the Piedmont Council for the Arts, the award of a start-up grant from the Virginia Foundation for the Humanities to begin production of a book on Richard Crozier’s paintings. Titled Repository of Missing Places, a travelling exhibition of 50 paintings featured in the book of the houses, factories, small businesses and community halls that no longer belong to the landscape and social fabric of a once small but expanding and diversifying town.

Local Event: It All Comes Together  11:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. – Gallery Flux

    Solo show featuring North Carolina artist, Matthew Scott Myers. He describes his paintings as Saturated Realism, or sometimes, Acidism, and then sometimes impressionism. Scott is a self-taught artist, looking to capture the vibrant world he sees around himself. The exhibit will be full of different scenes and subjects, but it all comes together.

Summer Research Poster Session  9:00 a.m. – Throughout Brock Commons

    During Summer 2017, nearly 50 students participated in the Schapiro Undergraduate Research Fellowships program, tackling timely and important research questions under the direction of a faculty advisor.  The results of their work will be on display in the Brock Commons.  Browse posters detailing their impressive research activities.

    Highlights of our traditional Ring Ceremony include an address by President Lindgren and family members joining juniors and seniors onstage for the presentation of the students' college rings.

Pre-Concert Lecture

    R-MC Music Professor James Doering will lead a pre-concert lecture with the conductor prior to the concert. This event is free of charge.

Concert  3:00 p.m. – Blackwell Auditorium

    Steven Smith, conductor. Molly Sharp, viola. Beethoven’s Coriolan Overture, Clarke’s Concerto for Viola and Orchestra, Davies’ Carolisima for Chamber Orchestra, Haydn’s Symphony No. 83 (Le Poule).

For ticket information, contact the RSO Box Office at (804) 788-1212. Admission at door: $22 – adults, $20 – seniors, $12 – children, $5 – all college students, R-MC faculty and staff with valid ID. Seating is on a first-come, first-served basis.

 

NOTE: Guest parking passes are not required for Family Weekend. Parents may park in all student and faculty/staff lots.  We encourage casual, comfortable dress for the weekend!
