Senior Project Policy

The Senior Project is a six-semester hour special project, performed over two consecutive terms. Semester hour credit for the first term (496) will not be recorded until both terms have been successfully completed. After the first term, which is taken for no hours, a grade of “S” or “U” is recorded. The student must receive a grade of “S” to be permitted to take the second term. During the second term the student is enrolled for 498 for 3 hours. Toward the end of the second term the student is enrolled in 497 for the three hours from the first semester. At the end of the second term the faculty project director submits two separate grades, one to indicate the student’s performance for the first term (497) and one for the student’s performance for the second term (498). The first term (496) “S” remains on the record. If a student fails to successfully complete the second term, a grade of “F” will be recorded for the second term only.  

The following rules apply to students enrolled in Senior Projects:

  1. You must pass successfully a comprehensive oral examination before an Examining Committee composed of three faculty members (one is your project director and one must be from outside the major department); 
  2. Members of the Examining Committee must sign the Report on the Senior Project and Comprehensive Examination form;  
  3.  The original copy of the project, free of mechanical errors, must be deposited with the College library, and the Report signed by the certifying librarian; and  
  4. The completed Report on the Senior Project and Comprehensive Examination must be received in the Registrar’s Office no later than when grades are due.
